Ananda does many vocal impressions including but not limited to –Billy Holiday, Cher, Carol Channing, Peggy Lee, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughn, Ethel Merman, and others.
She is a contralto, and proud of it! When singing, she specializes in jazz vocals, and standards, but also does musical theater.
Ananda studies Linklater voice technique for classical acting, and uses this technique to free her natural voice in all areas!
‘I find that ‘voice’ can apply to so many aspects of human expression. One thing that remains true is that in all areas, if an artist allows their greatest truth to be heard without obstruction, it is a beautiful and wonderful thing that everyone can relate to.
I have always loved to sing. As a dancer it was a natural impulse since I felt so close to the music. I was always afraid to sing in public until I started to study Linklater voice technique, and learned to relax, breath, and let the song happen. All of a sudden music burst forth from me! It was as though it had always been trapped in my heart, and now had a way out”
